  • Value of Production Index still increases

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry on a year-on-year basis continued to grow by 11.7 percent in April 2005, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Significant growth was brought about by ten (10) major sectors: transport equipment, furniture and fixtures, petroleum, non-metallic mineral products, publishing and printing, chemical products, miscellaneous manufacture, rubber products, textile and food manufacturing.Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

On a month-on-month basis, VaPI increased by 5.0 percent in April 2005. A notable increase was posted by tobacco followed by petroleum products, electrical machinery and fabricated metal products.Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

  • Volume of Production Index (VoPI) slightly moves up

Volume of Production Index (VoPI) posted a year-on-year increase of 1.0 percent in April 2005. Sectors with double-digit increases were noted in furniture and fixtures, transport equipment, non-metallic mineral products, rubber products, textile and miscellaneous manufacture. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-B.

On a month-on-month basis, VoPI in April 2005 picked up by 4.1 percent. Major sectors that significantly contributed to the growth were the following: tobacco, petroleum products, electrical machinery and fabricated mineral products. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-B.

  • Technical Notes

Starting 2004, weights for the Producer's Price Index (PPI) are based from the results of the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) for establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over. Reference year for the 2000 CPBI is 1999. Refer to Press Release on Revision of 2004 PPI weights..

Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
