The National Statistics Office (NSO) is set to issue the 2000-based data series of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) and the Producer Price Survey (PPS) beginning with its July 2006 data release. The NSO is currently releasing its data with 1994 as base year. The 2000-based MISSI and PPS as well as the 1994-based series shall be simultaneously released the until December 2006 data release. The January 2007 report will no longer include the 1994-based series.
The MISSI primarily provides planners and policy-makers in both the government and the private sector with timely flash indicators on the performance of growth-oriented industries in the manufacturing sector. The PPS, on the other hand, measures the monthly or yearly changes in the producer price of key commodities also of the manufacturing sector. The results of both surveys are being targeted for release by the NSO every 55th day after the reference month.
The 2000-based MISSI and PPS indicators will have the same industry groupings consisting of 20 major sectors and 34 sub-sectors as the 1994-based indicators. Below is the list of major sectors with their corresponding sub-sectors:

The re-based data series will make use of the set of weights derived from the results of the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI). The weight of each sector/sub-sector will be proportionate to its contribution to value of production of its major sector/sector.
As a result of the re-basing activity, re-based indicators will also be generated for the following (2000=100):
Volume of Production Index (VoPI). The VoPI for each industry class/group (4/3-digit PSIC) is derived using indirect approach, that is, by dividing VaPI by the corresponding PPI. The VoPI for the total manufacturing is derived as the weighted VoPI of all industry groups.
Producer Price Index (PPI). The PPI is a Paasche index, which uses weights from the latest available annual survey or census data. The revision of the weights is done only at the beginning of each year (starting January) and these are used for the entire year.
The PPI at the industry group (3-digit PSIC) and for total manufacturing is the weighted harmonic mean of the component price indices. The PPI at the industry class (4-digit PSIC) is simply the unweighted arithmetic mean of the price relatives of the commodities representing the industry class and multiplied by 100.
In addition, new sets of indicators, Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) and Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI), will also be generated adopting the new base year. These indicators will be derived using the same methodology as the VaPI and VoPI.
The re-basing of the MISSI and PPS indicators from 1994 to 2000 is in accordance with National Statistical Coordination Board Resolution No. 6, series of 1991, which mandates the re-basing of the price indices every five years. This will also be consistent with NSCB Resolution 13, series of 2003, which approved the adoption of the 2000-based Consumer Price Index (CPI).
