The National Statistics Office (NSO) announces the release of the 2006 Philippine Yearbook (PY) in hard copy and in compact disc.
Providing background information on the country's history, geography, demography, and government, the PY also presents analyses on the latest available statistical information generated by the NSO and other government agencies. This makes the Philippine Yearbook a trusted reference material by government planners, policymakers, the academe, business people, and the general public.
The 2006 PY consists of 24 chapters and touches practically on all the facets of Philippine society. It has about 500 tables showing the latest status and development in education; science and technology; agriculture and fishery; transportation and communications; labor, income, and employment; population and housing; tourism; domestic and foreign trade; banking and finance; and national economic accounts. Specifically, the PY looks into the current government policies and programs and their direction. Comparative international statistics are likewise presented to serve as benchmarks for data users.
Featured in this edition is a paper on "The Use of National Labor Force Survey for Collecting Additional Labor-Related Statistics in the Philippines" which hopes to examine the feasibility of measuring indicators of decent work in the country.
